How Much Sugar Should You Eat A Day?
According to American Health Association, max amount of added sugars you should eat in a day:
- Men: 150 calories per day (37.5 grams or 9 teaspoons)
- Women: 100 calories per day (25 grams or 6 teaspoons)
FYI, one 12-oz can of Coke contains 140 calories from sugar, while a regular-sized Snickers bar contains 120 calories from sugar. However, to be healthy most of us can do with lower levels of added sugar, so keep in mind, above is not recommended amount, it’s the max safe amount.
What about Natural Sugars?
Based on health guidelines, two or three serves of fruit per day, five serves of veggies and adequate amounts of low GI carbs.
While natural sugars are better than added sugar, we still need to track, so choose wisely. If consumed in excess, it will impact blood sugar, so moderation is key.
