Do you believe that that only way to lose weight is to get everything ‘right’? Exercise daily, eat healthy in every meal, hydrate well…And if you give in to the temptation of that cookie you think “I’ve had one I might as well have the whole lot.” Then guilt takes over and you get upset for not having the willpower to resist! You restrict your diet again to make up. And the cycle starts again.
That Was My Trap
For a long time, that was a trap I was in. But after losing more than 20 kg and keeping it off, I now realise healthy eating is truly a journey, not a final destination. I don’t need to follow any plan perfectly to stay healthy. Because just keeping going makes all the difference.
Consistency Beats ‘Perfection’
It’s unrealistic to think about radically changing your diet overnight. Allow yourself to transition into healthy eating. Plus, knowing that you can still have some of your favourite treats, will eliminate the pressure of needing your diet to be perfect.
4 Ways To Be Consistent
- One Meal First: Start by eating healthy one meal per day. E.g. Breakfast, then move onto lunch, and then dinner.
- Know Your Binge Spots: If it’s snacks, keep nutritious snacks like nuts, seeds, sliced veggies handy.
- Food Log: Doing this was an eye opener when I first started by knowing my actual daily intake. But the trick is to do it honestly and consistently.
- When The Streak Breaks: Know that you will still indulge more than you like. So, prepare ahead. E.g. If you end up having a bagel, don’t let yourself go out of control by ditching your healthy plan altogether.
Remember it’s about consistency, not perfection.
