I wish there was a single magic immune boosting food that I could give my child! Alas. However, there are still a number of powerful healthy habits for kids that we can adopt to help support their immunity. Completely naturally.
It Starts With A Great Diet
A poor diet can lead to nutritional deficiency that impacts immune function negatively.5 Additionally a diet of highly processed foods leads to inflammation which can further burden immunity. Hence focus on a maintaining a healthy, balanced diet with plenty of fresh veggies, whole fruits, nuts, seeds, legumes, and proteins.
Maintain Healthy Gut
When the gut bacteria becomes imbalanced, our ability to fight off infections is altered. Hence give kids enough foods rich in probiotics (e.g. yogurt, fermented vegetables) and prebiotics (e.g. banana, lentils, garlic).
Help Calm Their Stress
Children’s bodies have the same response to stress that adults’ do—their cortisol and adrenaline rises. It’s important for children to have lots of down time, time for creative play, and simply times of rest. Busy bodies need to take a break for their immune systems to thrive.
